Karl Darlow clock is ticking as rivals join Tottenham in race for Leeds United star
Leeds United must make a decision on the future of Karl Darlow sooner rather than later as Premier League giants line up for his signature.
Luckily for Daniel Farke's side, the goalkeeper cannot be distracted by the 2026 World Cup after Wales were knocked out of the qualifiers by Bosnia and Herzegovina.
While the Whites do have Lucas Perri and Alex Cairns available, Darlow has taken the starting gloves at Elland Road, keeping five clean sheets in his 22 Premier League starts.
Despite becoming a key figure for Farke, the 35-year-old's contract is set to expire at the end of the month, and while all parties are believed to be in talks, there is yet to be a solution over his future.
This could cause a huge problem for the Whites, especially if they struggle to find a replacement for the Welsh international, and the shot-stopper is not without options ahead of next season.
Tottenham Hotspur's interest in Darlow has already been revealed, and they're not the only Premier League team eyeing up a free transfer.
Tottenham joined in race to sign Karl Darlow on free transfer
Darlow would be a fine addition to Roberto De Zerbi's side in North London, but a new update suggests that securing his signature won't be so easy.
According to The Athletic (9 June), Manchester United are the latest team to join the race for the experienced goalkeeper, seeing him as an ideal back-up at Old Trafford.
Although Darlow has entered into the twilight of his career, he has shown no signs of slowing down, so a back-seat role, even for a club in the Champions League, might not be enough to persuade him.
Either way, Leeds are running out of time to make a decision. Undoubtedly, he deserves a brand-new contract at Elland Road, but the process is being stretched out for reasons unknown to the supporters.
What is happening to Leeds United's other goalkeepers?
Meslier has come to the end of his contract, so there is no doubt that he is finally set to depart Elland Road after a miserable couple of seasons for him.
Perri, on the other hand, still has three years left on his deal. However, the Brazilian has really struggled to adapt to life in the Premier League, and is already being linked with moves away.
It would make the most sense for all parties. At 28 years of age, he has plenty of football left to play, but it doesn't appear that he'll be doing that at Elland Road.
Cairns looks set to continue as Leeds' back-up goalkeeper, with rumours that the academy product will put pen to paper on a new deal this summer.
