Leeds 'concerns' about Anton Stach assessed, expert predicts selection decision

Leeds United have no significant concerns about Anton Stach's form despite a recent downturn in his performances.

The 27-year-old was among Leeds' top performers last season, and despite his role as a key player under Daniel Farke, questions have been asked about his recent displays.

Fans have been critical of the midfielder's performance during their 1-1 draw against Man United at Elland Road, sparking claims that he may start to become a concern.

However, former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Stach is still a key part of Farke's plans and dips in form do not always have to be "major problems".

The Germany international has featured in all nine of Leeds' games so far this season, and has started all seven in the Premier League where his side have impressed.

However, while his downturn in performances after last season's highs have led to questions being asked over his position in the starting XI, there is no reason for Farke to worry ahead of Sunday's clash against Sunderland.

Why is Anton Stach being criticised at Leeds?

Football Insider reported on 19 October that Stach is coming in for criticism at Leeds after a string of underwhelming displays, although it may not be entirely warranted.

The midfielder remains a key part of Farke's side and will remain so for the long-term future, having impressed on large since his £17.4million arrival from Hoffenheim last summer.

As a result, there are no major concerns about his current dip in form despite some frustrations from the fans, and he is being backed to get back to his best quickly.

"I don't think there's any need for Leeds to have any big concerns about Stach's performances," Brown told Football Insider.

"He may not have been at the level he showed last season, and that was pretty clear against Man United in what wasn't his best game, but it's just a dip in form.

"It doesn't always have to be a major problem, sometimes players just aren't at their best, but I'm sure he will get back to a high level sooner rather than later.

"Stach is a good player, he's been very good for Leeds since he came in, and it seems the manager is still relying on him.

"So I wouldn't expect him to drop of of the side any time soon, because he needs to playing to regain that form and confidence in his abilities."

How do Leeds feel about Stach's long-term future?

Following his impressive debut season at Leeds last time out, speculation about Stach's long-term future at Elland Road was rife heading into the summer transfer window.

The midfielder was linked with a potential move away from Leeds, and a number of clubs were believed to have taken note of his performances in Farke's side.

However, Brown told Football Insider earlier this year that Leeds were prepared to do everything in their power to prevent Stach's exit and keep him at the club long-term.

That is likely to remain the case now, despite his recent drop in the level of his displays, as he remains a big part of the manager's thinking and his ambitious plans.

After what has been a strong start to the season for Leeds, they will be hoping their best players will step up to help push them further up the league table.
