Leeds United rejected an offer for Lucas Perri in the winter transfer window after he dropped down the pecking order.

The Brazilian shot-stopper's future at the Whites remains uncertain, with game time under Daniel Farke not guaranteed next season.

Karl Darlow pipped the 28-year-old to the number one spot midway through the 2025-26 campaign, but the Wales international is also set to become a free agent unless the West Yorkshire outfit extend his contract.

It has been claimed that the Elland Road hierarchy had an opportunity to cash in on Perri for the same amount they paid Olympique Lyon to sign him last summer, but rejected the offer.

The Peacocks paid around £13.9million for the Brazil national, but Farke quickly lost faith in him after some high-profile goalkeeping errors.

While the shot-stopper did pull off some decent saves in the Whites' run to the FA Cup semi-final, it remains to be seen what the future holds for him.

Lucas Perri contract terms shared at Elland Road

Perri is apparently one of the highest-paid players in Leeds' current squad, with his contract running until 2029.

The Brazilian ace made 16 Premier League appearances last season, conceding 29 goals, before Farke decided to reinstate Darlow as the number one.

BBC Sport journalist Adam Pope revealed that the Whites decided against letting the former Lyon goalkeeper leave after just a few months at Elland Road.

The West Yorkshire outfit made a significant outlay to convince Perri to join them, but he quickly lost favour under Farke.

Speaking on the Don't Go To Bed Just Yet podcast on 22 June, Pope said, "I've learned very recently that when he was dropped down to number two, that an offer apparently came in for him of a similar value to what Leeds had paid.

"He's on a big contract, one of the club's biggest contracts, as I understand, and it's until 2029. Leeds didn't accept that offer, whatever format it was in."

Elland Road transfer plans set amid Karl Darlow contract talks

Football Insider transfer correspondent Pete O'Rourke shared in May that amid Leeds' talks with Darlow over a new contract, they were planning to be in the market for a new goalkeeper this summer.

Since the 2024-25 campaign, when Illan Meslier lost his position in between the sticks under Farke, there has been uncertainty about the position.

The Whites would certainly have hoped Perri would be a solution to their problems last summer, but after an underwhelming season from the Brazilian star, the German manager would be right to demand the signing of a quality goalkeeper this time around.
