Leeds in 'damage limitation' with Jack Harrison as they prepare to accept new loan offer

Published on

Jack Harrison is causing yet more issues for Leeds United after returning from his six-month loan spell at Fiorentina.

That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that Leeds would "love" to sell the 29-year-old winger.

Harrison made 13 appearances for the Whites in 2025-26 before being sent out on loan during the winter window, playing 22 games for the Italian side last term.

He has now been sent out on loan three seasons in a row, having been at Everton between August 2023 and June 2025, and his future is a major talking point once again.

Despite clearly having no future under Daniel Farke, Harrison's next move ahead of the 2026-27 campaign remains unclear, but a loan deal could be on the cards again.

It is believed that the winger could make a return to the US, with New England Revolution keen on a move, but Leeds have been unable to get him off the books completely up until now.

Leeds United want Jack Harrison off the books completely

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson explained the difficulties of gettting rid of unwated players, with loan deals adding another layer to the situation.

"Ultimately, you prefer to sell these players, but if you can't sell them then the next best thing is to loan them," he said.

"It happened with [Jadon] Sancho last season, Man City if you look at Kalvin Phillips. These are all players that, of course, they'd love to sell them, but sometimes just can't.

"If you can't you've got to loan them. It's just damage limitation. If you can get some loan fee in, you get most of the wages paid, you're probably reasonably happy.

"There is a problem from an accounting perspective because one approach in accounting is if you don't get full coverage of their wages and you don't get full coverage of their amortisation, there's a question as to whether you need to impair the asset.

"This would be an immediate hit to a club's finances. It's very technical, but it's another reason why they have to look carefully at loans."

What's next for the Leeds winger?

Understandably, rumours are beginning to swirl already, despite the winger likely not even being back at Elland Road after his loan spell yet.

Leeds have been trying to sell Harrison, who still has two years remaining on his contract, but they simply haven't been able to get him off the books.

A return to America appears to be the most likely outcome for the 29-year-old this summer, but moving him on won't be as simple as many fans would like.

Football Insider understands that another loan deal could be the likeliest outcome ahead of next season, but that would be rather frustrating.
