Leeds 'ready to accept bid' for Lucas Perri, new goalkeeper replacement lined up

Leeds United are planning to accept offers for Lucas Perri this summer as they work towards signing a new goalkeeper.

The 28-year-old arrived from Lyon last summer as Daniel Farke hoped he would be the answer to long-term goalkeeping issues at Elland Road.

However, he has struggled to nail down a place in Farke's first-choice XI and lost his starting position to Karl Darlow towards the end of the Premier League season.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Leeds are now prepared to move Perri on and are open to offers for his services.

This comes as they step up plans to sign a new goalkeeper, with a number of options already on their radar ahead of a busy summer transfer window.

Could Lucas Perri be allowed to leave Leeds?

Football Insider revealed on 22 May that Perri could be allowed to leave Leeds as they remain in talks with Karl Darlow alongside the addition of a new goalkeeper.

The Brazilian is no longer seen as their starting goalkeeper, and ahead of bringing in a replacement, Leeds are attempting to drum up interest in a move away.

Long-term interest from clubs in Turkey and his native Brazil could provide the exit route, with Leeds hopeful of making back the £15million spent to land him one year ago.

"Leeds want to sign a new goalkeeper," Brown told Football Insider.

"Karl Darlow has done a very good job for them, they're happy with his role, but they feel they need to bring somebody in who can really nail down the starting place.

"That calls into question the future of Lucas Perri, who lost his place in the starting XI, and it looks like he's not going to be part of their plans.

"If an offer comes in for him that will allow them to make their money back, I expect Leeds will be ready to accept it, and then it can be spent on bringing in his replacement."

Who could become the next Leeds United goalkeeper?

With plans now in place to allow Perri to leave Elland Road, Leeds have set their sights on a number of targets, with the position at the top of their list of priorities.

Leeds' recruitment team have been keeping close tabs on multiple options across Europe, as well as some with Premier League experience, notably Nick Pope.

James Trafford: Newcastle United 'priority' revealed amid 'major' concern

Brown told Football Insider last month that Newcastle are prepared to let Pope leave as they set their sights on a new goalkeeper, with James Trafford a top target.

That could open the door for Leeds to make a move for the shot-stopper who has been a long-term target after they opted against a move last summer.

Pope remains highly-rated at Elland Road, and his availability could place them on alert, with his potential arrival kickstarting a move for Perri to leave.
