Leeds 'register interest' in Konstantinos Mavropanos as transfer edges closer

Leeds United are one of a number of clubs who have registered their interest in signing West Ham star Konstantinos Mavropanos in the summer transfer window.

The 28-year-old is widely expected to leave the London Stadium following their relegation from the Premier League, placing a number of clubs on alert over his situation.

Leeds, meanwhile, are assessing a number of centre-backs to strengthen Daniel Farke's side following the £20million sale of Pascal Struijk to Brighton.

Former West Ham scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Mavropanos is on Leeds' radar given his Premier League experience and potential availability.

The Greece international has endured a mixed spell at West Ham, but his performances towards the end of last season caught the eye despite the club's relegation.

However, Leeds are not the only contenders for his signature, as his desire to move on has sparked interest from a number of clubs across Europe.

Could Leeds make a move for Konstantinos Mavropanos?

Brown told Football Insider on 2 July that Leeds are ready to spend big on signing a new centre-back, as the position has quickly become a priority for Farke's summer plans.

Mavropanos' availability has attracted interest from Leeds, who are assessing him as well as a number of other candidates to strengthen their back line.

Leeds are now believed to be keeping a close eye on his situation, and if they are given encouragement by West Ham, they could be tempted to make a move.

"Mavropanos is going to leave West Ham this summer, so there is already registered interest," Brown told Football Insider.

"Given the way he played in the final third of the season, despite West Ham's struggles, if he can keep that up consistently then he might be a good option for somebody.

"Leeds, for example, have him on their radar because of his experience in the Premier League and his availability which means they could do a deal at a good price.

"They want to sign at least one centre-back, so somebody who has just dropped out of the Premier League falls into the bracket they will be looking at.

"If West Ham are prepared to let him go as I'm told they are, then a move to Leeds might be something that appeals to him to get back to playing at the top level."

West Ham: Konstantinos Mavropanos has 'heart set' on Borussia Dortmund move

Which other clubs are interested in signing Mavropanos?

Despite the growing interest at Elland Road, Leeds are far from the only club interested in Mavropanos and will face a battle for his signature this summer.

Premier League rivals continue to keep tabs on his situation in East London, while a number of Bundesliga clubs are now perpared to lure him back to Germany.

Football Insider revealed in April that Borussia Dortmund are among Mavropanos' admirers, and the centre-back has his heart set on that move should they make an offer.

A return to the Bundesliga, where he previously represented Nurnburg and Stuttgart, is believed to be his preferred destination as he eyes a move away from West Ham.

That could come as a blow to Leeds' plans, but should no offers arrive from Germany, the chance to jump back up to the Premier League is expected to appeal.
