Leeds Sources: Daniel Farke contract update
Daniel Farke could be set to land a new contract at Leeds United following the close of the transfer window, sources close to the club have told Football Insider.
The boss has long been tipped to extend his stay at Elland Road following an impressive season last time out as they comfortably avoided a relegation battle.
A strong start to the new season has seen Leeds pick up two wins and a draw from three games so far, with the manager once again receiving plenty of plaudits.
As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, Farke is now in line for a new contract with Leeds set to hold talks in the near future.
He had dismissed any suggestions that he could pen a new deal during the transfer window, instead claiming he had not considered his future with other issues taking precedence.
The focus at Elland Road had been on transfers, and currently is fixed on continuing their strong start to the season, but talks over Farke's contract will take place in due course.
Does Daniel Farke deserve a new contract at Leeds?
At the end of last season, Farke spoke out demand the board backs his ambitious plans for the future, after they reaffirmed their commitment to him as the Leeds manager.
Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness told Football Insider that Farke's comments were unnecessary and could lead to issues behind the scenes if he is not careful.
However, with the window now having closed, the Leeds board are delighted with the job Farke is doing and hope to persuade him to commit his long-term future to the club.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "Yeah, now the window's closed, Leeds can make steps towards extending the manager's contract.
"Farke admitted himself, he said he was brushing off all talk over his contract situation, saying there was loads of time to do it and he wasn't thinking about that.
"He was just focused on strengthening the team with any potential new signings in the final weeks of the window as well.
"But look, the main focus for Leeds and Farke right now is to continue their fine start to the season. They're three games in, unbeaten and going well.
"They had a good transfer window as well, bringing in some players who have improved the squad, and I'm sure Leeds now will be looking to sit down with Daniel Farke and get a deal done."
How have Leeds' owners backed Farke this summer?
Towards the end of last season, there had been suggestions that Farke was growing frustrated at Elland Road, despite on-field results having taken a positive turn.
After the boss spoke out about his ambitious plans and demands for backing from the board, all eyes were on how they would support him in the transfer window.
Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown warned Football Insider that Farke had "had enough" of being forced to contend with minimal backing from the board.
However, following Tuesday's transfer deadline and the completion of all of their business, there is growing optimsim for a strong season at Elland Road.
Leeds completed seven permanent transfers during the window, including the big-money signings of James Trafford and Tarik Muharemovic, and strenghtened in key positions.
