View: Leeds 7/11 duel winner should be recalled vs Newcastle, he can inspire win
Leeds United are set to host Newcastle United on Monday and Daniel Farke must ensure Brenden Aaronson is in the starting XI.
The 25-year-old has been in and out of the line-up so far this season, and did not start in the Peacocks’ last Premier League match.
However, given his last performance against Newcastle United, Aaronson must be the first name on the team sheet on Monday.
Back in January, the US international netted twice as Leeds were narrowly defeated 3-2 at St James’ Park.
The performance was arguably Aaronson’s best in a Leeds top, and he was no doubt incredibly unlucky to be on the losing side.
Given that the midfielder clearly knows how to bypass Newcastle’s defence, he must now be given the chance to repeat this feat.
How good was Brenden Aaronson vs Newcastle?
When Aaronson last played Newcastle, he was arguably the best player on the park.
The midfielder dominated and helped out both defensively and offensively.
According to Fotmob, he had three shots, all of which were on target, had a 0.22 xG, created one chance, had five touches in the opposition’s box, completed all three of his attempted dribbles, made four tackles, completed seven recoveries and won seven of his 11 ground duels.
Therefore, Farke has to recall him to his Premier League lineup on Monday in order to give Leeds the best chance of winning the game.
This is especially true when you factor in his performance against Chelsea on Wednesday, where he also found the back of the net.
What is Leeds’ record vs Newcastle?
In recent years, Leeds have had a terrible record against Newcastle.
The Peacocks have failed to win in any of their last six meetings, with their last victory coming in 2021.
In fact, Leeds have not beaten Newcastle in front of their own fans at Elland Road since 1999.
Therefore, Farke will be aiming to break this terrible streak on Monday under the lights.
However, it remains to be seen if Aaronson will be starting in the match as both teams look to come away with three points in the Premier League clash.
