Mohamed Amoura's injury history examined as Leeds United target suffers World Cup blow
Wolfsburg's Mohamed Amoura could soon be a new addition to the Leeds United squad as rumours continue to swirl at Elland Road.
With the German side now relegated to the German second division, the 26-year-old is expected to escape the sinking ship, with the Premier League a potential liferaft for him.
Despite Wolfsburg's catastrophic campaign, Amoura finished the season on eight goals and three assists, adding to his 19 goal contributions from the season prior.
The Whites are expected to revisit a deal once the 2026 World Cup comes to a close, with Aston Villa and Everton also keeping tabs, amongst other European clubs.
Amoura is currently away on international duty with Algeria, and after a comeback win over Jordan, an early exit from the competition is off the table for now.
This summer's tournament may have just thrown a curveball as Leeds' transfer plans, though, after the exciting attacker suffered a setback.
Mohamed Amoura suffers new injury at 2026 World Cup
Amoura played 26 minutes of Algeria's 3-0 defeat to Argentina, before being completely absent for the 2-1 win over Jordan on Tuesday, 23 June.
According to Ghana Soccer Net (22 June), the player has sustained a thigh injury that might not only have ruled him out against Jordan, but Austria as well.
It would be a serious blow to the 26-year-old's transfer hopes if he were to miss the rest of the tournament, and it may have already raised some red flags in West Yorkshire.
During his two seasons at Wolfsburg so far, Amoura has missed 10 games for club and country via inner ligament, hamstring and muscular injuries.
In 2023-24 at Lugano, he missed a single game due to a shoulder injury, while also missing nine other games in the two previous campaigns due to unknown issues [Transfermarkt].
While these injuries are nowhere near as long-term or severe as someone like Dominic Calvert-Lewin has had, they might be enough to raise some concerns.
Everything Leeds United fans should know about Amoura
Only time will tell how serious the player's new setback is. He'll be chomping at the bit to return, but it isn't always as simple as that.
As for his style on the pitch, he isn't quite the natural No.9 that a lot of fans are after. He is capable of playing anywhere in attack, such as a second-striker, or even the left wing.
But Amoura should be feared in the Premier League. His pace is possibly unmatched by most players, with recent reports clocking him at over 36km/h.
If he can return to action at the 2026 World Cup, interest is bound to blossom ahead of next season, and he seems like a player worth taking a risk on for Leeds.
