Leeds 'expected' to agree new Daniel Farke contract 'shortly'
Leeds United are planning to sit down and discuss a new contract for manager Daniel Farke ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.
That is according to former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes that the 49ers are prepared to hand the German a two-year extension to his current deal.
The 47-year-old is about to head into the final 12 months of his contract at Elland Road, but the West Yorkshire outfit have no intention of losing him.
Wyness expects that an agreement between Farke and the club to resolve his future will be sealed "shortly."
This comes after the boss called for backing from the board after leading the team to 14th in their first season back in the Premier League.
Leeds have ambitions of progressing to challenge the established elite of English football, and they still see Farke as the right man to lead their project.
Leeds ready to give Daniel Farke what he wants
Everton’s former chief Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that Farke has done enough to "deserve" a new deal at Leeds.
He has faced his fair share of criticism at times, but sparked a turnaround in their fortunes with a switch to a 3-5-2 formation back in December, which ultimately saw them escape the relegation battle.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, Wyness emphasised that he expects a new deal for Farke to be just around the corner.
"You can't have a manager with one year left on his contract and not getting the backing of the owners. So they've got to look at extending his contract as a sign to show they're going to back him," he said.
"If they let his contract run with one year left, why invest long term with all the assets he's going to want to have?
"There's going to have to be some move to back him, and I think he needs another two-year extension on his contract. I think he has probably deserved that.
"He's shown he understands what's needed, and there's a chance to grow on from where they were last year. I expect his position to be resolved shortly. And I do expect some bigger signs from them to kick on and get Leeds going forward."
49ers to transform Leeds with 'very special' plan
Wyness recently told Football Insider that Leeds could transform their standing in the Premier League with their new development plans at Elland Road.
Work has begun in recent weeks to take the Whites' home up to a 53,000 capacity, with the full upgrades in line to be complete by the summer of 2030.
Wyness has suggested that the plans could turn Elland Road into a "very special" place for football, while also taking the club into a "completely different financial picture" with the increased capacity.
The work will bring a total capacity increase of 16,000, something which Wyness is sure will have a transformational impact on the club long-term.
