'One to watch' - Rafael Leao offered to Leeds United

Leeds United have not ruled out the possibility of signing AC Milan star Rafael Leao in the closing stages of the transfer window.

The 27-year-old is believed to have been offered to Leeds among a number of other European clubs, with AC Milan aiming to cash in as part of a late summer exodus.

Their interest did not go any futher after being approached, with concerns about the agent fees and the player's wages forcing Daniel Farke's side to look elsewhere.

However, former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Leeds have not ruled out signing Leao and could revisit a move in the near future.

If they can find a way to rework the complicated finances involved in a way that would work for the club, then there is a chance they could beat their rivals to his signature.

Leao's contract at AC Milan is set to run until 2028, placing them in a strong position to negotiate, but with the Italian club looking to cash in, Leeds could take advantage.

Could Leeds make a move to sign Rafael Leao?

Football Insider revealed in May that AC Milan are ready to accept offers for Leao this summer, placing a number of Premier League clubs on alert over his availability.

Leeds are among those who were contacted about his availability, with the player's agent working to attract interest, although it seemed the Whites had decided against a move.

The door has been left open, though, for them to make a move in the coming weeks if they can establish a deal that works both for the club and the player.

"Rafael Leao is certainly going to be one to watch before the window closes," Brown told Football Insider.

"There has been a lot of interest from him from a number of different clubs across Europe, but it was interesting to hear Leeds were having a look at him.

"It would be an ambitious move, the type Daniel Farke has probably been looking to make all summer to add that bit of spark to his squad.

"A lot will depend on whether it's financially viable, because he's on big wages and that seems to be the issue and why they haven't stepped up their interest so far.

"But it has not been ruled out, and if Leeds were contacted, it must mean the player would be interested in the move, so it might be the type of opporuntity they can't pass up on.

"If they can make it work for them, with the wage structure and at a reasonable fee, then there's no reason Leeds couldn't look to bring him in before the window closes.

"As I said, it's a bit of a surprise one to see him linked with that move because of other clubs we've spoken about, but it looks like it could be a real possibility."

Which other clubs are interested in Leao?

Leeds were not the only club to have been contacted about Leao's availability in recent weeks, with clubs across Europe now keeping tabs on his situation.

Galatasaray are the most recent club to explore a move for the AC Milan star, with Turkish clubs having already spent big this summer, while other Premier League sides remain keen.

Brown told Football Insider in April that Man United have held talks with Leao's representatives after he emerged among their targets to strengthen out wide.

While United are not the only club interested, their recruitment team have been keeping a close eye on his performances in Serie A over the last last 12 months.

Wheter their interest remains strong is yet to be seen, as they continue to assess other targets, potentially opening the door for Leeds to swoop.
