Sources: Dan James could push to quit Leeds in January
James, 28, has struggled for game time under Daniel Farke since the start of this season.
The Wales winger's minutes have suffered over the last 10 months as a result of Farke's switch to a back three formation.
He is yet to start a Premier League match in this campaign after starting just seven times across all competitions last season.
As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, James could force an exit in the January window if he is not offered more minutes in the coming months.
Farke does not want him to leave but the Whites may have to agree to a deal if the right offer arrives.
Dan James makes Leeds transfer plan amid game time struggles
James proved his quality with a strike in Wales' 2-1 Nations League win over Norway on Thursday night.
The 28-year-old was key to Leeds' Championship-winning 2024-25 campaign and is set to receive offers from the second tier midway through the season as he struggles to feature regularly at Elland Road.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "I don't think they'll be keen to cash in on James as they're going to need a big squad this season. Daniel Farke won't want to weaken his squad.
"If the player wants regular first team football he might seek a move elsewhere, but I don't think Leeds will be necessarily pushing him out the door."
Leeds make final decision on selling Ethan Ampadu in January
Ampadu has retained his place as a regular in the Whites' team over the last few years and is now into his third season as their club captain.
James' fellow Welsh international is reportedly attracting transfer interest from a host of top clubs, including Chelsea, who he left to join Leeds in 2023.
Sources have exclusively revealed to Football Insider that Leeds will not sell Ampadu for £50million in January and are unlikely to receive an offer that they deem big enough to accept.
He is set to stay at Elland Road until next summer at least, with his contract still set to run until 2030.
