Sources: Leeds 'braced' for Gabriel Gudmundsson offer as interest intensifies
Leeds United are bracing to receive offers for Gabriel Gudmundsson amid growing interest in a deal, sources have told Football Insider.
The 27-year-old enjoyed a fantastic first season in the Premier League after making the £10million move from Lille last summer, establiishing himself as a key player for Leeds.
He was then selected as part of Sweden's World Cup squad, where he turned in a number of strong performances before their round of 32 defeat against France.
As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, those performances have spiked interest in Gudmundsson and clubs could test Leeds' resolve.
Daniel Farke is reluctant to lose any key players this summer as he looks to build on a strong season by strengthening his squad rather than weakening it in the market.
However, with the growing interest in Gudmundsson after an impressive season, they may find it difficult to deter his potential suitors.
Could Gabriel Gudmundsson leave Leeds this summer?
In May, Football Insider shared Stephen Warnock's claim that Gudmundsson is likely to attract high-profile interest thanks to his displays at Elland Road last season.
That prediction now looks likely to come true, with clubs across Europe believed to have been impressed by the left-wing-back's outstanding form.
While he still has three years remaining on his deal at Leeds, having only joined last summer, that may not be enough to deter suitors as they brace for incoming offers.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "It doesn't come as a surprise that there is interest in Gabriel Gudmundsson.
"He had a very good debut season for Leeds in the Premier League last term and also he's enhanced his reputation with some good performances for Sweden at this World Cup.
"Leeds don't want to lose anybody that's part of Daniel Farke’s first team squad after they've reluctantly let Pascal Struijk leave to join Brighton.
"But they will be aware of the interest in Gudmunsson and bracing to receive offers if any of those interested clubs do decide to make a move for him in this summer window."
Which clubs are interested in signing Gudmundsson?
Gudmundsson's strong start to life in the Premier League is believed to have put clubs on alert across Europe, as well as a number of England's most high-profile sides.
There is a growing feeling that some of Leeds' biggest rivals could be tempted to make a move for the left-back, having been keeping tabs on him all season.
Chelsea's reported interest is the most high-profile, with Xabi Alonso keen to bolster his squad in key positions, and Marc Cucurella's exit leaving a hole in the side.
Meanwhile, Man United are believed to be searching for a new left-back this summer, and have eyed the Sweden international as a potential improvement on their options.
Leeds are determined to resist an interest in Gudmundsson, particularly from their big rivals, but could see their resolve tested in the coming weeks.
