Sources: Leeds could be forced to accept Brenden Aaronson offer after contract twist

Leeds may look to cash in on Brenden Aaronson before his contract expires if he does not sign a new deal, sources have told Football Insider.

The American playmaker is yet to hold talks with the Whites' hierarchy over penning fresh terms, with his current deal set to run out in June 2027.

Aaronson helped fire Leeds to the Premier League, then was a key man for Daniel Farke last season as he registered nine goal contributions in 37 top-flight matches.

He is keen to stay on at Elland Road, with talks over a new deal set to begin in the coming weeks.

It remains to be seen if he does sign an extension, and as I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, he could leave the club this summer if an agreement is not reached.

An approach for his services is expected over the next month, as Farke eyes several new signings in attacking midfield.

Aaronson has won over the majority of Whites fans with his performances over the last two seasons, after many questioned his commitment when he pushed to go out on loan following relegation in 2023.

The USA international is sure to attract some interest from across Europe, with suitors waiting to pounce if he does not agree to a new Leeds contract and is available for transfer towards the end of the window.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "If there's no breakthrough in new contract talks, then that might open the door for a potential exit from Elland Road as well.

"There's nothing in the offing right now. I think the player himself just wants to continue working and keeping his place in the team as best as he can. If no new deal can be agreed, then Leeds might have to look at the possibility of cashing in on him."

Leeds want Liam Delap for less than £40m

Farke's desire to add more depth to his options in the final third has seen the Whites register their interest in Chelsea striker Delap.

The 23-year-old struggled to make an impact at Stamford Bridge last season, scoring just once in 28 Premier League games.

Sources have exclusively revealed to Football Insider that Leeds will only look to sign Delap if Chelsea lower their £40m asking price.

He is also being targeted by Everton and Nottingham Forest as Chelsea line up a move away.
