Sources: Leeds make U-turn on signing Douglas Luiz after 'surprise' update
Leeds United are unlikely to pursue a move to being Douglas Luiz back to the Premier League following his return to Juventus, sources have told Football Insider.
Leeds have been long-term admirers of the 28-year-old and initially considered a move to bring him to Elland Road during last summer's transfer window.
However, after two frustrating spells at Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa, the Whites are now prepared to pull the plug on any suggestion of a fresh move for him.
As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, it would be a "surprise" to see Leeds reignite their interest in Luiz this summer.
Aston Villa opted not to extend his stay following the end of his loan spell, while Juventus are believed to be keen to move him on, but Premier Leauge interest has cooled.
Daniel Farke is keen to strengthen his midfield this summer, and had been linked with the Brazilian as a result, but there are now plans in place to look elsewhere.
Could Leeds United consider a move for Douglas Luiz?
Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider on 2 June that Leeds have considered signing Luiz but are unlikely to follow up on their initial interest.
Concerns about the 28-year-old's application and work rate have led Leeds to consider other options, after he struggled to impress on loan at Forest or Villa.
Leeds are now prepared to do a U-turn on last summer's interest, despite plans to strengthen their squad, leading th
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "Leeds were initially looking at him last summer before he made that move to Forest and then obviously Aston Villa.
"But I would be very surprised if Leeds were to rekindle their interest in Douglas Luiz.
"It was a disappointing time for him last year on loan at Forest, they sent him back to Juventus, then he went back to Aston Villa on loan in the second half of the season.
"He didn't play as many minutes as he hoped, so now he's back in Turin and he's at a bit of a crossroads in his career now, Douglas Luiz.
"I don't see Leeds being a landing spot for him last now, they've moved on from him and they'll be looking at other midfield targets rather than Luiz."
Which other midfielders are on Leeds' radar?
With the news that Leeds have no plans to reignite their interest in Luiz, they are instead planning to look elsewhere, with other midfield options now on their radar.
Farke has identified the middle of the park as a key area for improvement after demanding the board's backing after a strong season in the Premier League.
Football Insider revealed last month that Leeds are interested in signing Tanner Tessman from Lyon after the USA international was left out of the World Cup squad.
The Whites are believed to be exploring the possibility of signing the 24-year-old ahead of next season as he is seen as an upgrade on their current options.
There are doubts about Lyon's willingness to sell given his importance to the team, but a bid of around £21.6million could tempt them to sell.
