Leeds United are reportedly keeping close tabs on Yunus Musah as they accelerate plans to sign a new midfielder.

United scouts are said to be assessing the USA international as the club’s recruitment team working on providing Daniel Farke with a shortlist of targets who can slot instantly into the first team.

The 23-year-old looks set to return to his parent club, AC Milan, following a season on loan at Atalanta, where he will likely be allowed to move on permanently in the coming months.

Now, a move to Elland Road may be edging closer, it being reported that Leeds’ interest in Hidemasa Morita has cooled in recent days.

The 31-year-old had long been linked with a move to West Yorkshire, yet the former Sporting CP star could now move elsewhere.

Leeds United could miss out on Hidemasa Morita

The report states that despite Morita now becoming a free agent, Leeds have been slow to move forward with the signing.

As a result, this has allowed clubs such as Marseille, Monaco and Lyon to enter the race, with the former considering making a move.

This news, which was reported by A Bola on 4 June, may be an indication that Leeds are now prioritising a move for Musah over the Japan international.

Musah is no doubt an excellent player, but it would make little sense for the Peacocks to sign two defensive midfielders this summer.

Therefore, with Leeds potentially moving on from Morita, it indicates that a deal for Musah may well be closer.

Does Yunus Musah want to move to Leeds?

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown exclusively told Football Insider that Musah is keen on a move to the Premier League.

Leeds have developed a trend of signing US internationals in recent times, and the midfielder could link up with his international teammate, Brendan Aaronson, at Elland Road.

Musah was left out of the US World Cup squad this summer, meaning Leeds will not be able to watch him further over the coming weeks.

However, this could work in their favour as if gives both parties a chance to get a deal done without any distractions.

Nevertheless, it remains to be seen if Leeds do go in for Musah or if they prioritise another midfielder over the coming months this transfer window.
