Leeds expected to trigger '£70m' signing spree by source

Leeds United’s 49ers ownership are ready to inject an extra £70million into their transfer budget for the upcoming window.

That is according to former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes that the Whites’ hierarchy are ready to back Daniel Farke to get the squad right this summer.

This comes after the West Yorkshire outfit finished the 2025-26 Premier League season in 14th place, a feat that has seen them net £144m in prize money from the league.

Farke and Co. are eyeing up a series of fresh additions in a bid to consolidate their position next term, and Wyness believes that a significant chunk of that prize money will go back into the squad.

Leeds eye ‘tweaks’ rather than major overhaul

Everton’s former chief Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that Leeds do not need to make “wholesale” changes to their group this summer, and will instead be looking at minor “tweaks.”

As a result, he suggested that they will not commit the full £144m prize money to their transfer kitty, in order to try and promote stability elsewhere in the club.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness made it clear that Leeds are not eyeing a dramatic summer of business.

“I would expect Leeds, if they're being clever, to be looking at maybe between 30 to 50 per cent of that money being spent on strengthening the squad. think that's where it's got to go,” he said.

“They've got to look at longer-term issues at least to give stability and go forward. I think they've got enough of a squad right now where it can be a few tweaks and changes without having to go wholesale.

“I'd expect somewhere between the £50-70m mark would be where they'd be going, and I think they'll now trust Farke to work on the squad and to get that right in the way it's going forward.”

What are Leeds’ transfer priorities this summer?

Wyness also told Football Insider that Leeds are keen to add a new striker to their group this summer, as one of many areas of priority that have already emerged at Elland Road.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin needs more support in front of goal if Farke’s men are to replicate their success of 2025-26, and several of their key areas to strengthen are in the spine of the team.

A new goalkeeper is seen as a top priority after Lucas Perri’s struggles this term, while the club have also been linked with several centre-midfielders ahead of the window.

The likes of Anton Stach and Sean Longtsaff provided quality in that area of the pitch this season, but Farke is clear that greater depth is needed if the team are to kick on.
