Sources: Wilfried Gnonto agrees move as Leeds wait on new signing

Leeds United will only sanction Wilfried Gnonto's move to Fiorentina if they can get a replacement signed, sources have told Football Insider.

The Italian's initial loan move to join the Serie A side is understood to "work for all parties" and an agreement is in place, but the Whites could yet block it from going through.

Gnonto has fallen down the pecking order at Elland Road and wants to leave to get regular football, but his club's wish is yet to be met.

Leeds want to bring in a new winger before they give the final green light to the 22-year-old's departure, and sources say that the deal could go right down to the wire ahead of Tuesday's 11pm deadline.

Gnonto is keen to make the move to Fiorentina happen, but Daniel Farke is adamant that he will be staying put if no new signing is secured.

The wideman made 23 appearances in the Premier League last term, but is yet to feature in competitive action in 2026-27.

Gnonto's future at Elland Road has been uncertain throughout the last 12 months, and he has been little more than a bit-part player since their return to the Premier League.

He was limited to just four league starts in the entirety of last season, and remains down the pecking order at the start of the new campaign.

He finally appears set to get his desired move back to his homeland, but faces an anxious wait to see whether things will fall into place ahead of the deadline.

Serie A clubs are operating until the exact same deadline as the teams in the Premier League, meaning Leeds do not have the grace of a few additional days to get the deal completed.

With that in mind, there remains a genuine possbility that Gnonto could yet stay put in West Yorkshire for another few months at least.

Leeds can push for Europe with one more signing

Former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness told Football Insider last week that he believes Leeds can push for a European place this season, if they get a striker through the door before the deadline.

The Scottish businessman believes that a new frontman could be the final piece of the puzzle for the Whites, who have already shown signs of a marked improvement in their opening games.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is cemented as Farke's first-choice striker, but Wyness does not believe they can rely on him solely in front of goal, due to his concerning record with injuries earlier in his career.

Lukas Nmecha is currently the only direct understudy to the England international, and Wyness is clear that the situation must be addressed.
