Yunus Musah: Leeds United 'not alone' in hot pursuit

Published on

Yunus Musah is attracting interest from a number of Premier League and European clubs as Leeds United line up a move.

Daniel Farke's side have been long-term admirers of the 23-year-old and hope to persuade him to move to Elland Road when the summer transfer window opens.

However, they have been made aware that they are not alone in their pursuit and may have to move quickly if they wish to get a deal over the line.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that recruitment teams from across Europe have been keeping a close eye on Musah.

The midfielder spent the season on loan at Atalanta, but has now returned to AC Milan, and could be available as Leeds line up ambitious transfer plans.

Could Leeds United make a move for Yunus Musah?

Brown told Football Insider on 2 June that Leeds scouts have been watching Musah closely as he is firmly on their radar ahead of the summer window.

AC Milan are expected to move the midfielder on permanently, placing a number of clubs on high alert over his potential availability.

Clubs had orignially planned to track him at the World Cup, but after he was left out of Mauricio Pochettino's squad, could be tempted to make an early move.

"Leeds are not alone in looking at him," Brown told Football Insider.

"If Musah is going to become available, I expect Leeds will be one of a few clubs across Europe interested in doing a deal.

"Any player in his position is bound to attract a lot of interest. He's highly-rated and will probably be available, so lots of teams will be aware and on high alert.

"It would have been good for them to watch him at the World Cup but he won’t be involved there.

"Daniel Farke is keen to be backed in the summer, he’s spoken out to demand the board shows some ambition, so we can expect Leeds to be busy.

"But there are clubs willing to compete with them, so if they want to get a deal done, they might have to move quickly to beat them to it.

"It's a problem Leeds will face a lot this summer, they want to be ambitious but that also means you're competing with other top clubs and it can be difficult to get deals done."

Who else is interested in signing Musah?

Leeds are far from the only club who have been keeping tabs on Musah's situation, as they brace to receive rival interest in the USA international.

West Ham are among the clubs who have been heavily linked with a move for the midfielder, having considered a move alongside Leeds when he became available last year.

Nuno Espirito Santo's side are bracing for interest in a number of key players, but will look to replace them should they raise significant funds from player sales.

Football Insider revealed last month that Mateus Fernandes could leave West Ham, despite them having placed a signficant price tag on his head.

His departure could allow the Hammers to make a move for Musah, as they will need to strengthen in midfield following their relegation from the Premier League.
