Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed the uncertainty over a potential points deduction will affect the mindset of the Leicester City squad.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed any new twists in the club's financial situation will "drip into the subconscious" of Foxes stars.

The Premier League charged Leicester for an alleged breach of the league’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) in March.

Leicester posted a loss of £89.7million for the 2022-23 campaign, with clubs only allowed to lose £105million over a rolling three-year period under PSR.

A breach of the rules, which will be ruled on by an independent panel, could be punished with a potential points deduction.

Leicester squad will be affected by points deduction uncertainty, says Wyness

Enzo Maresca's side will play Premier League football again in the 2024-25 campaign after winning the Championship this season.

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “These things do affect players.

“It’s an external factor which can get in the heads of the squad.

“They live in a social media bubble and this situation is going to be on there all the time.

“They’re going to be reading about it, they’ll be checking the club's social media and also what the papers are saying about it.

“It will drip into the subconscious.

“It will affect the squad and their mindset going back into the Premier League.”
