Abdul Fatawu just boosted Leicester City exit price as World Cup history made
Abdul Fatawu featured as Ghana beat Panama 1-0 on Thursday to become the African side with the most wins in World Cup history.
Highly rated Nordsjaelland midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi netted a 95th-minute winner to secure the victory for the Black Stars, with Fatawu appearing off the bench.
The three points have given Carlos Queiroz's side a brilliant chance of making it to the round of 32 in group L, with England beating Croatia 4-2 on Wednesday.
Fatawu, 22, is expected to leave Leicester City this summer following relegation to League One, with several sides said to be interested.
The forward is under contract until 2029, but the Foxes are not expected to stand in his way if they receive a reasonable offer.
Several players will likely leave the King Power Stadium this summer, with Jeremy Monga among those already in exit talks.
Abdul Fatawu impresses in Ghana cameo
Leicester signed Fatawu from Sporting CP in 2024, in a deal worth around £14million after he had spent the season on loan.
The Ghana international had been hugely impressive in his first season on loan, but spent almost the entirety of the Foxes' season in the Premier League out injured.
His return this season has seen those same flashes of brilliance emerge, with the forward scoring nine goals and providing seven in the Championship, but the consistency has not always been there.
Fatawu has certainly done enough to earn a move away from League One, however, and his performances for Ghana will do his chances no harm.
In just 32 minutes off the bench on Thursday, the 22-year-old created a chance, took a shot and attempted four dribbles, completing one.
He also made three recoveries and won three duels, earning two free-kicks as Ghana completed a historic late win.
Newcastle United could turn to Fatawu after late heart-break
Newcastle United may be among the clubs considering a move for Fatawu, after events over the last 24 hours.
The Magpies had been in advanced talks over a move for young winger Victor Munoz, before the move was hijacked by Liverpool on Wednesday night.
As far as alternative options go, Fatawu is far from a bad one. The winger registered 1.36 chances created, 2.78 successful dribbles and 6.61 duels won per 90 minutes this season.
And if he can keep producing the impact he did on Thursday, a move will not be far round the corner for the 22-year-old.
