Stefan Borson reveals chances of Leicester City buyer paying King Power's asking price

Published on

Leicester City are unlikely to receive offers that match King Power's £222million valuation of the club.

That is according to former Manchester City financial advisor Stefan Borson, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes that the Foxes are expecting offers to arrive imminently.

This comes after the news that the club have set a deadline of 14 September for potential buyers to come to the table with bids.

Borson feels that the valuation will be a major issue when it comes to a potential takeover, and suggested that it is difficult to pin down exactly how much the club and its assets are truly worth.

The East Midlands outfit are languishing in League One for just the second time in their entire history, despite having won the Premier League title 10 years ago.

Leicester's £222m valuation includes the King Power Stadium and their state-of-the-art training ground, but finding a buyer to take them on will not be straightforward.

Stefan Borson 'uncertain' over Leicester takeover

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson made it clear that he is hugely uncertain as to whether Leicester will actually get new owners any time soon.

The Foxes have been up for sale for several weeks now, but the football finance expert believes that a compromise may have to be struck by their current owners.

"Yeah, I mean, I think it's uncertain, to be honest. It's quite a hard sell at the moment," Borson said.

"It's hard to know what you're basing the valuation of the club on. Which league is the club in?

"Is it a League One team, or is it really a Championship team with an option on the Premier League? It's hard to say.

"Yeah, I think it's a tricky one to call. Will they have any offers? Well, probably. But whether they'll be at this sort of £200m-plus level, I'm doubtful."

Keith Wyness explains chances of Neil Lal agreeing Leicester City takeover: ‘Two things here…’

Neil Lal's chances of Leicester takeover revealed

Former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness recently told Football Insider that it is highly unlikely that Neil Lal will have the necessary finances to fund a takeover of Leicester.

The Scottish-Indian businessman has publically expressed his desire to buy the Foxes, but Wyness believes he has "zero chance," unless he gains the support of one of the wealthiest Indian families.

The former boardroom man made it clear that Leicester's lofty valuation is driven by the value of their stadium and training ground, rather than their recent on-field fortunes.

Lal is keen to try and take control of the club, but Wyness is clear that in reality, that is extremely unlikely at this stage.
