Leicester City fans rip into 'unbearable' Stephy Mavididi after what he did vs Northampton Town

Leicester City progressed into the second round of the Carabao Cup thanks to a 1-0 victory over Northampton Town on Saturday.

Memeh Caleb Okoli netted the only goal of the game for the Foxes to ensure that Russell Martin picked up a narrow win in his first game in charge.

However, despite the result, not everyone impressed the Leicester fanbase, with Stephy Mavididi being singled out by many supporters.

The 28-year-old has already proven to be an unlikable figure at the King Power Stadium after being part of the squad that suffered successive relegation down to League One.

Yet, despite being up against League Two opposition in the first round of the Carabao Cup, the former Arsenal and Juventus star could not make a positive impact.

As a result, fans were furious with his display and quickly took to social media to express their anger.

Leicester fans furious with Stephy Mavididi’s display vs Northampton Town

Despite clearly declining in quality over the past few seasons, Mavididi has remained part of Leicester’s squad for the start of the 2026-27 campaign.

On Saturday, he was given the nod to start against Northampton as the winger looked to recover his form.

However, Mavididi was arguably the worst Leicester player on the pitch throughout and was eventually taken off just after the hour mark.

Throughout the match, Leicester fans were getting increasingly agitated at the 28-year-old’s lack of impact, and many have now taken to X demanding that he is sold this summer.

How bad was Mavididi vs Northampton Town?

Unfortunately for Mavididi, his stats against the Cobblers are not great.

According to Fotmob on 8 August, the winger created just one chance and a 0.03 xA, he did not have a shot, had just two touches in the opposition’s box, completed only one out of an attempted four dribbles, did not complete an accurate cross and was dispossessed four times.

Therefore, it was of little surprise that Martin hauled the player off with just 61 minutes gone on the clock.

However, it remains to be seen if Mavididi will remain in the starting XI for Leicester’s opening game of their League One campaign against Notts County, or if he will be dropped after that display.
