Leicester City and Charlton Athletic are among a number of clubs plotting a move to sign striker Mikael Mandron, sources have told Football Insider.

The 31-year-old is available on a free transfer after seeing out his contract at St Mirren, and could return to English football after leaving to move to Scotland in 2023.

The Frenchman enjoyed a brilliant season with St Mirren as he racked up 23 goal contributions in 48 appearances and helped the club win the Scottish League Cup.

Leicester and Charlton are both keen to strengthen their attacking options, and have registered their interest in the former Sunderland striker.

Mandron is keen to assess his options after deciding the leave St Mirren, with a host of clubs in the Championship, League One and abroad keeping tabs on his situation.

The striker's availability on a free transfer following an impressive season in Scotland has set clubs on alert, and there is now set to be a race for his signature.

Why are clubs interested in signing Mikael Mandron?

Mandron enjoyed a terrific season for St Mirren, with 23 goal contributions establishing him as one of the most important assests in what proved to be a successful season.

He has plenty of experience in the EFL, having made 127 appearances in League Two and 98 in League One, with Championship clubs now ready to offer a step up.

Leicester City have been forced to re-assess their transfer plans following their relegation to League One, while financial concerns could limit their spending power.

The opportunity to sign an experienced striker in Mandron on a free transfer has placed them on alert as a result, but they are not alone.

Charlton are also well-placed to lure the Frenchman back to England, with the opportunity to play Championship football and Nathan Jones keen to bolster his attacking options.

Which other strikers are on Leicester City's radar?

The addition of a new centre-forward has become a priority for Leicester and new boss Russell Martin, with no natural strikers currently on the books at the King Power.

Both Jordan Ayew and Patson Daka were released upon the expiries of their contracts and the club's relegation, leaving academy players as the only current options.

As a result, Football Insider revealed in April that Leicester are eyeing Lorient striker Bamba Dieng, who they feel could spearhead their push for promotion.

The 26-year-old left the Ligue 1 club upon the expiry of his contract earlier this week and is now available as a free agent, placing the Foxes on alert.

However, they will face competition from clubs including Blackburn Rovers, Oxford United and Portsmouth, as well as clubs in Europe, if they are to pull off a deal.
