Stefan Borson responds as Leicester City's owners 'try to sell' the club

Leicester City's Thai owners face a huge task of selling the club after relegation to League One in 2025-26.

That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that it will be difficult to price the sale to any potential buyers.

Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha, known better by his nickname 'Top', is the majority owner and chairman of the Foxes, who are currently at an all-time low.

In just two seasons, Leicester have gone from the Premier League to League One, and despite searching for a deal, the club have failed to find new owners.

During that time, a growing number of supporters have called for a change behind the scenes, and according to the Financial Times, King Power have got in touch with investment bankers at Citigroup to sound out buyers.

Those behind the scenes at the King Power Stadium have refused to comment, but it would appear that a full sale is on the cards now.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson analysed the difficulties of Leicester trying to find a buyer, and how complicated a deal would be.

"The first thing to say is that they have been trying to sell it for a couple of years, so they will have looked at trying to sell it in the Premier League, and also in the Championship," he said.

"They're not just looking at it now. The issue that they're going to have is, what are they selling? How, from a financial perspective, do you price this?

"And what revenues do you base it on? They will say, 'We're not a League One club, so almost forget the numbers for this year. They're just irrelevant to us'.

"But then, likewise, in many ways, you've got to ignore the parachute payments as well. So you've got to ignore last season's numbers as well, because the parachute payments won't exist next season.

"So it's a very hard thing to say what the normalised profit and loss of Leicester City is. How do you peg it?

"Do you sell it as a Championship team, do you sell it as a Premier League team? It's not a Premier League team, really."

What are Leicester City's chances of winning promotion?

Despite back-to-back relegations, supporters will be confidence of promotion straight back to the Championship in 2026-27.

Unsurprisingly, the Foxes are favourites to win the entire League One title, not just win promotion, being priced at 5/2 for the trophy by one major bookmaker.

Sheffield Wednesday are the next closest at 6/1, followed by Luton Town at 8/1 and Plymouth Argyle at 12/1.
