Leicester City are closing in on the signing of Tottenham target Timothy Castagne after a breakthrough in talks, Football Insider can reveal.
Spurs have been strongly linked with a move for the full-back this summer and he has revealed his interest in a move to London.
But Tottenham signed Matt Doherty in a deal worth up to £16m at the weekend to solve their right-back problem and now Leicester are poised to agree terms with Atalanta for Castagne.
A Leicester source has told Football Insider that discussions over a deal for the Belgium international, 24, are progressing well and all parties are confident of reaching an agreement.
Castagne has entered the final year of his contract with Serie A outfit Atalanta and they are expected to let him leave.
There has also been interest from other clubs in Italy’s top tier but Tottenham have dropped their interest to leave Leicester in pole position.
Castagne told La Derniere Heure last month that he could not turn down a move to Spurs as he revealed his interest in a Premier League transfer.
He has caught the eye of the Leicester talent-spotters as he has pedigree and top-level experience.
Castagne is versatile, too, and has primarily featured in a wing-back role this season, included in an advanced left-sided role on a few occasions.
Leicester sold Ben Chilwell to Chelsea last week for £45million and the Belgian can slot in to both full-back positions.
Capped seven times by Belgium, he has spent the last three years at Atalanta since his transfer from Genk in his homeland.
