Man United supporters have been left stunned by the latest update surrounding Lisandro Martinez at Old Trafford.

Benjamin Sesko has yet to prove himself as United's new striker, having arrived on a £73million deal from RB Leipzig over the summer, and being heavily criticised for his involvement so far.

Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha have made much brighter starts to life in Manchester, but even with the duo in the final third, Ruben Amorim's side have only picked up one win from three in the Premier League.

Amorim remains under pressure as Man United boss, heading into a hostile derby against Man City on Sunday, 14 September, with both managers trying to prove themselves at the Etihad Stadium.

However, the visiting fans have had their attention captured by news emerging out of Old Trafford instead.

Man United to offer a new contract to Lisandro Martinez

News is circulating from Fabrizio Romano that the Red Devils want to discuss a new contract with Lisandro Martinez, who is closing in on a return from injury at the Theatre of Dreams.

Martinez has been unavailable through injury since February, last featuring in a 2-0 Premier League defeat to Crystal Palace, which has become a constant theme for the Red Devils.

The Argentine made just 14 appearances during the 2023-24 season before returning for much of last season, but it could only last for a number of months. His current deal runs until the summer of 2027.

  • @MarcusJayson100: "What a brilliant idea, let’s extend an injury-prone hobbit who can’t defend or win a header to save his life. Glad we learned something from Luke Shaw and Anthony Martial."
  • @ThashilRB: "Discussing a new contract with someone who's been a walking casualty... This club will never learn."
  • @UnitedAlex7: "Why? He's so injury-prone, man."

To put it bluntly, supporters are seriously questioning the choices from those in charge at Old Trafford, taking to social media with plenty to say about the decision.

Man United fans want Martinez gone as injury woes continue

One supporter simply said, "Let him go," while another supporter suggested allowing the 27-year-old defender to stay fit for a longer period of time before offering him a new deal.

A third supporter claimed to feel "nervous" about handing a new deal to Martinez, who has spent most of the last two campaigns on the sidelines, attempting to recover from injury.
