There’s a huge amount of talk surrounding Tottenham and their potential summer signings.
Like any big Premier League club with money to spend, Spurs are being linked with a number of big players.
A £50m deal for Matthijs De Ligt has been reported and there’s constant speculation about Gareth Bale returning to the Premier League.
Between now and the August transfer deadline, Tottenham will be linked with plenty more and it’s likely they’ll strengthen their squad and maybe lose Toby Alderweireld.
However, one deal would eclipse any other this season and possibly this decade.
Prominent Tottenham journalist Alasdair Gold has reported that a bumper new deal for Mauricio Pochettino is “likely” and that it will happen in the next few months.
That would represent the best bit of business that Levy could possibly do.
Pochettino has the respect of almost everyone in football and that’s highly unusual in these partisan times.
He’s got the absolute maximum out of the current squad of players and is constantly pushing them to new heights.
He hasn’t won a trophy yet but that’s surely coming and with a new stadium to look forward to next season there’s never been a more exciting time to be a Tottenham fan.
The castle could all come crashing down though if Pochettino left and with talk of a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid in the future, getting him signed up to a new deal would be the best news Spurs fans could get.
Writing in Football.London, Gold said, “It’s looking likely that the gaffer will sign a new deal in the coming months.
“Spurs are certainly doing all they can to tie him down for the long-term future with a big new deal for him and his coaching staff.
“The club know they’re on to a good thing with a manager who has taken young, relatively cheap players and turned them into Champions League regulars.
“There’s a feeling there’s something special on the horizon at Spurs and Pochettino is looking forward to experiencing life at the new stadium as well as the muscle it will bring to Spurs.
“He already promised a few months back that on July 3, he would be at the first day of Tottenham’s pre-season training. If he continues to succeed then Real Madrid will come calling in the future and then he will have a big decision to make.”
Forget the players that Levy may or may not sign – this is the deal that will bring silverware to Tottenham’s new ground.
