Tottenham have built a reputation as being the team that’s all about youth, with Mauricio Pochettino at the vanguard of a new Spurs revolution.

However, that could all be set to change if Daniel Levy lets dazzling striker Reo Griffiths walk out the door.

The young striker put himself on the map this week with four goals against the Arsenal youth side. The 17-year-old added three assists as well and fans swarmed onto twitter to talk about him.

But he might not be at Tottenham for much longer, because people know how good he is and are set to make their move in the summer.

Paul Mitchell, Tottenham’s former head of recruitment, and the person who spotted Dele Alli, moved to Red Bull Leipzig earlier this year and he’s alerted the Bundlesiga club about Griffiths.

Mitchell wants to bring the best of the talent from north London to Germany and Mitchell is top of his list.

The youngster is out of contract in the summer and could walk, and it means Tottenham could miss out on one of the genuine stars of the future.

Why would they let this happen?

Griffiths might be being lured with the promise of senior football in the Bundlesliga, but Pochettino is in a position where he can’t do the same.

Each match for Tottenham is crucial and they’re in danger of becoming the next Chelsea if they let Griffiths go.

Chelsea have been slammed for never giving their youth players – like Dominic Solanke – a chance to break through into the senior squad, and that’s going to hamper them in the future.

So what of Tottenham’s reputation as a club that fosters youth talent?

Juan Foyth might be waiting in the wings, but he hasn’t been unleashed yet.

And Kyle Walker-Peters, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Josh Onomah might have something to say about it.

Harry Winks is the one breakthrough star but even he’s had setbacks this season.

If Levy can’t persuade Griffiths to say it will be a huge mistake and it will send the signal out that Tottenham isn’t the place to be if you’re young and have huge promise.

That would multiply the Griffiths mistake and have huge implications for the future.
