Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to express their delight at fresh reports that they are closing in on the signing of Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos.

Italian transfer site Calcio Mercato claim that the Merseyside giants have intensified contract talks with the 21-year-old’s agents in recent weeks and have been able to agree the terms of a deal.

It is said that the two parties have agreed in principle to a four-year contract with Ceballos ahead of the summer transfer window.

Calcio Mercato report that Liverpool have jumped ahead of AC Milan and Juventus in the race to sign the central midfielder, who is valued at £34.8 million by the Champions League holders.

Former Real Betis player Ceballos has made 20 appearances in all competitions for Real this season but has found himself behind the likes of Luka Modric and Toni Kroos in the central midfield pecking order.
