Liam Cooper makes honest Twitter admission after Leeds loss v Cardiff

By Danny Wright

Liam Cooper has admitted that he feels embarrassed after he was sent off in Leeds United’s loss at Cardiff on Tuesday night.

Cooper, 26, was shown two yellow cards in the space of six minutes in the first half of the Whites’ 3-1 loss at the Cardiff City Stadium which led to them slumping off their perch at the top of the Championship standings.

Things can get even worse for Leeds on Wednesday night should Wolves pick up at least a point against Sheffield United, giving the Black Country side the chance to leapfrog Thomas Christiansen’s men and even Cardiff with a decent enough result.

Cooper has been hailed by supporters this season for vastly improving his form ever since becoming a first-team regular and being handed the captain’s armband by Christiansen.

However he feels he has let everyone down after picking up a one-game suspension in South Wales on Tuesday and took to his personal Twitter account to issue a sincere apology to the fans.

“Embarrassed and disappointed with myself! I’ve let my team mates and the fans down tonight. Not good enough and not acceptable,” he said.

“Stick with us, we have an unbelievable team backed up by unbelievable support. Massive game next week.”

Cooper has made nine appearances in all competitions for Leeds this season, missing a couple of matches with a niggling injury problem which seems to be a theme for the entire defence as of late.

Luckily for Leeds, on-loan Everton centre-back Matthew Pennington made his return from injury against Cardiff, completing 45 minutes as he took to the field for the first time since getting injured on the opening day of the season against Bolton.

As it stands, him and Pontus Jansson are set to start this weekend when the Whites travel to Hillsborough for a huge Yorkshire derby with Sheffield Wednesday.
