‘Like a Rolls Royce’ - Liverpool fans rave about defender after international display
By Derek Smithson
Joe Gomez completed 90 minutes for England’s Under-21s side on Tuesday night – and Liverpool supporters on Twitter were raving about his performance.
The 20-year-old got the chance to captain the young Lions and was awarded the man of the match award after helping his team beat Latvia 3-0 in a European Under-21 Championship qualifier.
There were some familiar Premier League faces on the scoresheet for Aidy Bothroyd’s side as Leicester’s Demarai Gray opened the scoring in the 13th minute.
Tammy Abraham (Swansea) and Kasey Palmer (Huddersfield) also chipped in with goals to record a convincing home win, with the duo both out on loan from Chelsea.
There was a strong Liverpool representative as Gomez featured alongside team-mates Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dominic Solanke, while Sheyi Ojo also played and has been sent out on loan from Anfield to Fulham.

Gomez has endured a frustrating spell at Anfield since his move in 2015 due to injury, but has started the season in full fitness and played four times at senior level under Jurgen Klopp so far.
The versatile ace is a centre-back by trade, but has been used as a right-back this season for the Reds.
There is now an opening in the starting XI following the injury to first-choice right-back Nathaniel Clyne and Gomez is certainly one in contention.
Meanwhile, his club and international team-mate Alexander-Arnold is another vying for the full-back slot and is a highly-rated youngster.
In other Liverpool news, a Sky Sports pundit has highlighted a weakness in the club’s summer signing.
