By Alex Stevens

Midfielder Liam Coyle has signed a long-term contract with Liverpool, the club have announced.

The Merseyside giants revealed on their official website on Monday that Coyle, 17, has penned his first professional deal with the club.

Central midfield kingpin Coyle is highly regarded within the Liverpool academy and is already captain of the club’s Under-18s, for whom he made his debut at the age of just 15 last season.

The teenager, who signed for the Premier League club’s youth set-up at the age of 10, has previously skippered Liverpool at Under-15 and Under-16 level.

Lifelong Liverpool fan Coyle counts Anfield icons Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher among his heroes, as well as Barcelona mainstay Javier Mascherano.
