Liverpool are in a great position to keep hold of Philippe Coutinho despite heavy interest from Barcelona.

According to a report in Sport, Barcelona are preparing to make the 24-year-old their prime target ahead of the January transfer window.

Coutinho has grabbed five goals and five assists already this season, helping Liverpool climb their way up to the top of the Premier League table.

His form has unsurprisingly increased transfer speculation but Liverpool are in a great position to keep hold of him because of the Jurgen Klopp revolution.

Klopp’s reign has been an exciting one so far and in just over 12 months he has led Liverpool to two cup finals and transformed an inconsistent side into one of the most threatening teams in the league.

Liverpool are a team seemingly in a positive transition, under a world-class manager and Coutinho is their star man.

Should they achieve Champions League qualification at the end of the season, as expected, there would be little reason for Coutinho to leave except for sentiment.

As a South American, it would be a dream move for Coutinho to head to Barcelona but with Neymar, Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi already in the team, it would be hard to place the Liverpool man in their starting XI.

He could remain in Merseyside as an automatic starter and spearhead a title challenge as well as competing in Europe among the best stars in the world as Klopp continues to improve the Reds.

Liverpool must offer him an improved contract given he is not the highest paid player at the club, but that should come in January as the club attempts to fend off competition from interested suitors.
