Liverpool could agree ‘straight swap’ deal for Sadio Mane after update – pundit

Noel Whelan has suggested Liverpool could strike a “straight swap” deal with Bayern Munich for Sadio Mane and Serge Gnabry.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed a part-exchange or player swap “makes sense financially ” for the two clubs.

As reported by the Daily Mail (31 May), Bayern are considering a move for Sadio Mane, 30, this summer, while Liverpool are admirers of Gnabry, 26.

The duo are both out of contract this summer and are reportedly considering their futures at their respective clubs.

The report claims Mane is keen on a new challenge and would be interested in a move to Bayern.

Whelan suggested the two clubs could agree a swap deal that suits all parties.

Discussing a possible swap deal, Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Look, it makes sense, doesn’t it? A fresh challenge for both players, it may be a straight player swap.

“If you’re an admirer of these players, it makes sense financially. If it’s what the players want, that little swap, that change of scenery between the Bundesliga and Premier League, it’s a no brainer, isn’t it?

“It’s just about smashing out the finances and whether it’s a player straight swap or player plus cash. Then it’s ironing out what the player’s demands are for what he wants in weekly wages.

“Bar that, there’s not really too much to talk about. It suits both players and both clubs.”
