Paul Robinson has claimed Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's injury is "the last thing" Liverpool needed with Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Naby Keita at the African Cup of Nations.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one said Jurgen Klopp may now change system due to a lack of options in forward areas.

Oxlade-Chamberlain suffered an ankle injury after scoring in Liverpool's 3-0 win over Brentford on Sunday.

Speaking to club media after the win (16 January), Klopp described the injury as "a shadow on the game".

He added how it was too early to decipher the extent of the problem but hinted it will not be a short absence.

When asked by Football Insider's Dylan Childs for his reaction to the news, Robinson said:

"Oxlade-Chamberlain's injury leaves the options for the front three at just Jota, [Roberto] Firmino and [Takumi] Minamino, and let's be honest, they failed to impress when they played together against Arsenal.

"Oxlade-Chamberlain's injury is the last thing Klopp needed with Mane and Salah at the African Cup of Nations. Oxlade-Chamberlain will be a huge miss.

"That is now three of Liverpool's front players missing until early February. It will be a real test for their squad. Klopp may even change the system to play with a front two or Firmino and Jota."

Oxlade-Chamberlain has made 25 appearances across all competitions for the Reds this season.

He has 18 months left on his contract.
