Liverpool are currently on course to earn more than £80million from the Champions League this season after winning all six of their matches.

That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider the Merseyside giants are in line for a “spectacular” financial year following their strong start to the campaign.

Liverpool made it six wins out of six in the Champions League after Mohamed Salah’s second-half penalty handed them a 1-0 victory over Girona on Tuesday.

It meant Arne Slot’s side remain three points ahead of Barcelona at the top of the table, with qualification for the knockout rounds almost certain with two group games still to play.

Liverpool set for 'spectacular' financial year after on-field success

Borson suggested that figure will increase dramatically if Liverpool manage to finish top of the revamped league phase and progress deep into the competition.

He told Football Insider“It could be incredibly lucrative overall because they have won every game.

“You are talking about €2.3million (£1.9million) for every three points.

“They are also going to get themselves an easier draw for the next phase because it’s clear they are going to win the group.

“It’s going to be a very lucrative year.

“By the time they have finished, you are going to start approaching €100million (£83million) for the season, which I think is equivalent to what it has been historically for winning it or getting to the final.

“They are on course for a very successful season financially.

“I suspect their wage bill is relatively stable as well compared to the prior year.

“If everything goes to plan and they do win the league and have a late run in the Champions League, I think this will be a pretty spectacular financial year for Liverpool.”
