Liverpool fans have taken to social media to rave over the surprise reveal from the club that star striker Roberto Firmino has put pen to paper on a new long-term deal at Anfield.

The Reds made the shock announcement, which was preceded by very little suggestion anything was imminent, via both their official Twitter account and website on Sunday afternoon, just over 24 hours after he had led the line in the 0-0 draw with Stoke City.

The club did not reveal how long his new contract would keep him committed to the Reds for, with his previous deal set to expire in 2020.

The Brazilian arrived at Anfield from Hoffenheim back in 2015 and has enjoyed a successful time in front of goal, scoring 50 goals and chipping in with 38 assists in 140 appearances across all competitions, establishing himself as a firm favourite on Merseyside.

The surprise news had the Liverpool faithful delighted on Twitter, with many noting the fact he did not look at the paper when signing – a potential nod to his ‘no-look’ finishes which have become a favourite of the supporters.
