Liverpool fans react on Twitter to drawing Leeds in League Cup

Liverpool have been handed a home EFL Cup tie against Championship outfit Leeds – and fans on Twitter were looking forward to the mouth-watering fixture.

The Reds beat Tottenham 2-1 on home soil to progress through to the quarter-final stage, while the Whites secured a dramatic penalty shoot-out victory against Norwich.

Fans on social media were happy with the exciting draw, with many seeing it as two of England’s famous clubs squaring up.

Many supporters felt that is should be a victory for Jurgen Klopp’s men, who will be strong favourites to triumph.

The majority of fans were pleased with the former Premier League side visiting Anfield, as a place in the semi-final of the EFL Cup awaits the winners.

The two clubs last met at Elland Road in 2009, which saw David N’Gog score in a 1-0 victory in the League Cup.

Leeds haven’t travelled to Anfield since 2003 and the last time the two side’s met, Liverpool ran out comfortable winners.

Goals from Michael Owen, Danny Murphy and Florent Sinama-Pongolle ensured the Reds victory, with Alan Smith scoring for Leeds in a 3-1 loss.
