Liverpool fans slate Sheyi Ojo on Twitter after display v Plymouth

By Emma Sanders

Liverpool fans reacted with frustration on Twitter to Sheyi Ojo’s performance against Plymouth in Sunday’s FA Cup third round tie.

The youngster was named in the starting XI to make his first appearance since May after he suffered a back fracture in the pre-season campaign which has ruled him out of action so far in 2016-17.

Ojo is one of the most highly-rated youngsters in the Liverpool squad and fans were excited to see him back in the squad after a lengthy injury lay-off.

However, the 19-year-old struggled to make an impact on the game as Liverpool had to settle for a disappointing 0-0 draw.

Fans were frustrated on social media and they shrugged off suggestions Ojo could potentially replace Sadio Mane over the next few weeks, as supporters were urging Jurgen Klopp to make a new signing in January.

Here is a selection of the messages on Twitter:

The pacey winger impressed in Liverpool’s academy before enjoying successful loan spells at Wigan and Wolves but he has been tipped to become involved in the first team more often in 2017.

His performance on Sunday suggested he is in need of more game time before he makes a regular return and he will need to keep performing well in the Under-23 squad.

Ojo has made 12 appearances for Liverpool to date though he could extend that tally if he is selected for the replay against Plymouth.
