Liverpool fans react on Twitter to Danny Ings' first goal since injury

By Harvey Byrne

Liverpool striker Danny Ings has scored his first goal for the Reds since suffering a cruciate ligament injury in October – and fans of the Merseyside club have expressed their joy for the England striker.

The 23-year-old came on at half-time in Liverpool’s first pre-season match, as the striker scored a 78th minute winning goal with the Reds beating Tranmere 1-0.

Liverpool signed the England international after he impressed for Burnley during the 2014-15 season, where he scored 11 Premier League goals.

Ings is seen as a good fit for Klopp’s high intensity brand of football, as he plays with great energy both offensively and defensively.

The striker will be competing for a place with Daniel Sturridge, Divock Origi and possibly an incoming striker as Klopp attempts to sell Christian Benteke.

Controversial striker Mario Balotelli was left out of the squad to face Tranmere, as his days at Anfield look to be up.

Here are a selection of Tweets from Liverpool fans reacting to Ings’ goal:

The Reds missed the former Bournemouth striker in the recently completed season, as they finished in a disappointing 8th place while Sturridge finished as the clubs top scorer in all competitions with 13 goals after playing in just 25 fixtures.
