Liverpool fans react on Twitter after flop Aspas replaces Costa in Spain squad
By Alex Stevens
Iago Aspas has been called up to the Spain squad as a replacement for Diego Costa – and Liverpool fans on Twitter have reacted with surprise.
Costa is out of Spain’s squad to play Macedonia and England after failing to respond to treatment on a groin injury.
The in-form Chelsea striker Costa has been replaced by Celta Vigo striker Iago Aspas, who had a miserable time at Anfield and is widely regarded as one of Brendan Rodgers’ worst signings.
Costa had arrived in Madrid earlier this week to join up with the squad and immediately underwent medical tests to ascertain the extent of the problem picked up in the win over Everton.
Costa, 28, has failed to take part in a training session this week and Spain coach Julen Lopetegui admitted that his recovery has been disappointing.

Lopetegui had opted to keep the Chelsea striker with his squad in case he could turn things around for Tuesday night’s clash with the English – but he’s now heading back to Chelsea’s Cobham training ground for treatment.
The call-up of Aspas, who has scored seven goals in 14 matches for Celta this season, has come as a shock to Liverpool fans.
Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:
In commemoration of Iago Aspas gaining his first Spain call up, here’s the worst corner ever.

Aspas had a miserable time at Anfield, scoring just one first team goal in 15 appearances for the club.
In other Liverpool news, talks are to begin with a £27million-rated ace loved by Klopp.
