Liverpool fans react hilariously on Twitter after Milner dominates Sterling in Man City clash

By Emma Sanders

Liverpool fans reacted with amusement on Twitter after James Milner destroyed Raheem Sterling during the Reds’ 1-0 victory against Manchester City on Saturday.

The left-back dealt with Sterling throughout the game and didn’t allow the pacey forward to cause any problems for Liverpool’s defence.

Sterling left Liverpool for £50 million in July 2015 and fans were not very happy as it was carried out in controversial fashion following an unsuccessful league campaign.

He was booed throughout the entire game at Anfield on New Year’s Eve but fans were greatly amused by Milner’s ability to deal with his threat and they were still talking about it the following day.

Here is a selection of the messages on Twitter:

The 22-year-old Manchester City star has been in great form so far this season and has already scored six goals in all competitions throughout the 2016-17 campaign.

Sterling’s last goal came during the crucial 2-1 victory against Arsenal but he wasn’t able to find the score-sheet against Liverpool and that was largely down to Milner.

Liverpool’s vice-captain produced another brilliant display at left-back and despite learning his trade as a right-sided midfielder, he has adopted to the role superbly this season.

Milner won the Premier League title twice during his five-year career with Manchester City and he could add a third to his tally this season if Liverpool can catch Chelsea at the top of the table.

The Reds currently sit six points below the league leaders and they are still yet to face them at Anfield at the end of the month in what could prove to be a hugely important fixture.
