Liverpool fans share disappointment on Twitter after Taylor is picked to officiate Man United clash

By Harvey Byrne

Anthony Taylor has been appointed the referee for Liverpool’s clash against Manchester United – and Reds fans reacted on Twitter with disappointment to the decision.

The Merseysiders are preparing to host their fierce rivals at Anfield next Monday with both side’s in good form.

However, the Premier League confirmed on Monday afternoon that Taylor, from Wythenshawe, Greater Manchester was picked to officiate the match between the two country giants.

The news has caused an uproar with many of the Liverpool fan base and some took to social media claiming the referee would show a bias to United.

Here are a selection of their messages on Twitter:

According to Taylor’s Wikipedia page, the referee supports non-league side Altrincham.

However, many are led to believe that the referee has ties to one of the country’s biggest club’s, which is in a short distance of where the official is from.

Despite the choice of referee, the match is still expected to be a hotly contested fixture with Jurgen Klopp’s side in fourth set to take on Jose Mourinho’s team in sixth and three points separating the two teams.

The two rivals last met in March in the Europa League with the pair playing out a 1-1 draw with Liverpool running out 3-1 winners on aggregate.
