Liverpool fans took to Twitter to lament the decision to sell striker Christian Benteke after the former Liverpool man sunk the Reds with a brace at Anfield.
The Crystal Palace man continued his fine run of scoring against Liverpool at Anfield to secure a 2-1 victory for his side and leave the Red’s top-four hopes in the balance.
Benteke was a Liverpool man for a solitary season after signing from Aston Villa, but endured a disappointing time at Anfield, scoring just nine league goals in 29 appearances.
Jurgen Klopp decided that the Belgian striker was surplus to requirements ahead of the 2016/17 season, with Crystal Palace snapping up the striker as they look to improve on a 15th place finish in 2015/16.
Benteke has impressed at the Selhurst Park side, scoring 14 league goals in 31 appearances, and the 6’3” striker added his tally with a brace against his former side, taking his goal haul against the Anfield side to seven across all competitions.
The win moved Palace to 12th position on 38 points, almost certainly guaranteeing Premier League safety for the London club.
Liverpool meanwhile stay in third on 66 points, but with teams surrounding them having two games in hand over the Merseyside club.
Fans took to social media to bemoan Benteke’s brace, and criticise the club for having sold the 26-year-old in the first place.
