Darren Bent claims that Liverpool fans will not be happy to hear Jurgen Klopp’s admission that the club could pull out of the League Cup over their congested fixture schedule.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and England striker says that the Anfield faithful will have seen Manchester City’s domination of domestic football last season and hoped to emulate their rivals’ success this campaign.

Klopp admitted that if a suitable date cannot be found to fit around their Premier League and Club World Cup commitments then they would feel forced to pull out the League Cup.

With Liverpool fans having seen Pep Guardiola and his men pick up a treble of trophies, pipping the Reds to the Premier League title and also securing the League Cup and the FA Cup, Bent says the supporters will not be too pleased with their manager’s comments.

Bent told Football Insider: “It’s a tough one and I’m sure the Liverpool fans won’t be happy with that. I get what Jurgen Klopp is saying, their fixture congestion is crazy, but at the same time fans want trophies.

“Liverpool fans saw Guardiola lift absolutely everything domestically last season. Liverpool know they’re in a position to do that as well. They know they’re in a position where they could lift every trophy in this country like Man City did.

“The fact they’re prepared just to give one away, I’m not sure how that’s going to go down with Liverpool fans.”

Liverpool have been drawn against fellow Premier League side Aston Villa for their quarter-final clash, the match penned in to take place in the middle of December.

However, the Reds also have a Club World Cup fixture scheduled in Qatar for the day after their League Cup tie, with a potential final coming just days later.

In other Liverpool news, Paul Robinson was left fuming with a decision made by Klopp over a player who started against Arsenal.
