Liverpool handed title 'advantage' over Man City after Ruben Dias news confirmed - pundit

Liverpool have been handed an “advantage” over Man City after Ruben Dias was ruled out of Sunday’s top-of-the-table clash.

That is the view of former Arsenal and Everton striker Kevin Campbell, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 24-year-old’s recovery from injury.

Dias has been sidelined since Man City’s 2-0 win over Peterborough United on 3 March because of injury.

The centre-half returned to training last month but is yet to be named in a matchday squad.

Speaking to club media (1 April), Pep Guardiola revealed Dias will not be available until the second leg against Atletico Madrid on 13 April at the earliest.

Man City welcome Liverpool to the Etihad on Sunday in a game that will have massive consequences on the title race.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs if Dias’ absence could be key, Campbell said:

“It’s advantage Liverpool solely because if everyone is fit, Dias is one of the first names on the team sheet.

“He’s not going to be fit though. He is not going to quite be ready. It will be John Stones and [Aymeric] Laporte back there who have played in big games before. They have been there, seen it, done it.

“I think Klopp will be licking his lips if Dias is not there though because he is a level above those two. He’s one of the best.”

Dias has been one the Premier League’s standout players since his arrival at City in September 2020.

He has contributed two goals and four assists in 34 appearances across all competitions this season.

In other news, an ex-Premier League referee has claimed this may be the real reason for Jack Grealish’s troubles at Man City.
