Harvey Elliott is the ready-made replacement for Xherdan Shaqiri at Liverpool, according to Paul Robinson.

The former Spurs and England number one, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the "brilliant" 18-year-old could save the club millions this summer.

As quoted by Fabrizio Romano (July 26th), the winger revealed to CorSport that he has told Liverpool’s board that he is ready for a new challenge and would like to leave.

The club are said to have accepted the Switzerland international's decision and will now listen to offers.

According to Sky Sports (27th July), Sevilla and Villarreal are interested in signing Shaqiri on a permanent deal, while Lazio and Napoli have been in touch with the player's representatives.

Shaqiri has one year left on his contract at Anfield, but the club have the option of a 12-month extension.

When asked by Football Insider's Dylan Childs if Elliott, who spent last season on loan at Blackburn, is ready to replace Shaqiri, Robinson said:

"Elliott did brilliantly at Blackburn last year and there is no doubt in my mind that he could take on Shaqiri's role in that squad.

"I think the lack of funds at Liverpool will lead to a lot of these youngsters being more heavily involved next year. I cannot see Elliott or others in the starting XI on a regular basis but they will definitely come into the squad.

"I have no doubt that Elliott can do the same job as Shaqiri next season."
