Liverpool are closing in on confirming the singing of Lyon attacker Nabil Fekir after a verbal agreement was reached between the France international and Jurgen Klopp, according to a reliable journalist.

France.Football reporter Nabil Djellit claimed on his personal Twitter account on Tuesday that the Liverpool manager met with Fekir, 24, at the start of the year and there is now an agreement in place between Lyon and the Champions League finalists.

It is understood that there’s a possibility other clubs could make offers for Fekir, who has scored 22 goals in 38 appearances in all competitions this season, however the journalist adds that the deal with Liverpool is “confirmed but not signed”.

Football Insider verdict

This is absolutely huge for Liverpool, who look as though they already have one of their summer signings wrapped up on a verbal basis until the transfer window opens. Fekir is a very highly-rated talent and it’s amazing that he has lasted this long at Lyon before being snapped up by one of Europe’s bigger clubs. Hopefully the Frenchman’s move to Liverpool will produce better results than what Alexandre Lacazette’s switch to Arsenal did, but it’s hard to see how Fekir can’t play well. It seems as though he will fill the role vacated by Philippe Coutinho and provided none of them leave, he would play behind a front three of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and the untouchable Mohamed Salah. Even Jordan Henderson has enjoyed playing behind those three this season and Fekir is of immense quality. It won’t be long before he is having everyone talking about him like Salah and Coutinho have done.

In other Liverpool news, the Reds are working on two midfield goal machine deals with one on the verge of an agreement.
