Liverpool issued 'big' Harvey Elliott claim by pundit after news via BBC

Kevin Campbell expects Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott to have a “big” impact in the 2022-23 campaign.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton striker suggested Jurgen Klopp was “protecting” the 19-year-old at the back end of last season.

Elliott began the 2021-22 campaign promisingly for the Reds, starting three of the first four Premier League fixtures.

However, an ankle injury at Leeds United on 12 September sidelined the teenager for the best part of five months.

The attacking midfielder struggled to get back into the Liverpool starting XI after returning from injury.

However, as reported by the BBC (15 June), his performances were enough to see him named on the 100-man list for the Golden Boy award.

When asked by Football Insider what he expects from Elliott next season, Campbell said: “I expect a big season from Harvey Elliott.

“I think Klopp was protecting him a little bit at the back end of last season. They were going for everything. It was high pressure.

“Klopp knows Elliott can perform but he did not want to take the risk because he’s a young player. There is always next season.

“Elliott is going to be prominent in the seasons to come. I’m sure he will get plenty of minutes next season.”

Elliott scored once in 11 appearances across all competitions last season.

He spent the 2020-21 campaign on loan at Blackburn Rovers where he contributed seven goals and 11 assists in 42 appearances.
